How do you prepare your pets for a new arrival?
Hi,
I'm not yet, but hope to be soon (5 months and counting!), but am just thinking about how it will go down with my rather insecure westie (though much better than he was- a rescue from March time), and needy weedy little cat (we've always had him, but his mum was a rescue when she was pregnant and so so scrawny, so I think he missed something vital to nurture him when he was very young, and he always wants a cuddle, and to be everywhere and right next to me!)

Its a good idea to keep the older animals and new animals separated for a while until you know they will meet. Remember to keep an old farm outside while you go get the new pet, then introduce them slowly.

It’s not surprising mind you, especially all the horror stories my wife and I have heard while taking our own dog to the vet. Speaking from experience, we’ve spent more on our dog than it cost to go on our honeymoon to Hawaii. And we’d do it again.

By taking the time to prepare their pets for the arrival of their new baby, you can mitigate potential problems down the road. There are many simple steps you can take before you get to help ensure a good transition.Determine if there will be changes in the routine of your pet due to the arrival of a new baby. The months before the big day is the time to acclimate your pet to changes in the timing of meals, access to restricted areas and indoor / outdoor routines. Socializing your pet as much as possible with infants and children.
