Flash Drive
To carry files from one computer to another a medium is needed and flash drive act as a medium for this purpose. In simple we can say that it is a storage device used to store files or folder. It is an electronic device having non-volatile data storage which can easily erase the data and can be reprogrammed again. It is actually Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory abbreviated as EEPROM. Data from one computer system to other digital equipment can easily be transferred using this flash drives. It has become leading technology as and when the non volatile solid state storage is required because flash memory cost is less than byte program EEPROM. Laptop, personal digital assistants, digital audio players, digital cameras, mp3 players, mobile phones etc. are few examples of flash drive.

For saving the game data it is often used in console video game hardware, where it can be found as EEPROM or battery powered static RAM. The information stored in the chip needs no power to maintain it as the flash memory is non volatile. The popularity of flash memory in portable devices are because the flash drive offers quick read access time than the hard disk which is the best feature in it. Higher reliability, durability are another features of flash memory.

Flash drive is the right solution when it comes to security and portability devices. Flash memory is used to create backup copies of files from your computer and it can be used in any other electronic equipment for easy and fast information storage in computers, video game consoles etc. Sometimes it is also know as solid storage device and it more a hard drive than Random access memory. Few of best examples on video game consoles flash drive are computer's BIOS chip, Compact Flash, Smart Media, Memory Stick and Memory cards.

RE: Flash Drive
A flash drive is a small storage device that can be used to transport files from one computer to another. They are slightly bigger than a piece of gum, may yet many of these devices have all your homework for an entire year! You can keep a key chain, worn around the neck or attach it to your book bag.

A USB flash drive, a flash memory data storage devices are integrated with a USB interface. A flash drive is a small storage device that the other computer files can be used to transport .. USB Flash Drive less than an external hard drive storage capacity, but they are small and more durable because they do not include any internal moving parts.

RE: Flash Drive
The thing is that I want to say you that due to their portable nature and universal compatibility, the USB flash drive as largely supplanted by everyone's favourite for transferring files between computers without using network.

RE: Flash Drive
A USB flash drive consists of a flash memory data storage device integrated with a USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface. USB flash drives are typically removable and rewritable, and physically much smaller than a floppy disk. Most weigh less than 30 g (1 oz).[1] Storage capacities in 2010 can be as large as 256 GB[2] with steady improvements in size and price per capacity expected. Some allow 1 million write or erase cycles[citation needed] and have a 10-year data retention cycle.[3][4]

USB flash drives are often used for the same purposes as floppy disks or CD-ROMs were. They are smaller, faster, have thousands of times more capacity, and are more durable and reliable because of their lack of moving parts. Until approximately 2005, most desktop and laptop computers were supplied with floppy disk drives, but most recent equipment has abandoned floppy disk drives in favor of USB ports.

USB Flash drives use the USB mass storage standard, supported natively by modern operating systems such as Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, and other Unix-like systems. USB drives with USB 2.0 support can store more data and transfer faster than a much larger optical disc drives like CD-RW or DVD-RW drives and can be read by many other systems such as the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, DVD players and in some upcoming mobile smartphones.

Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a specification to establish communication between devices and a host controller (usually personal computers), developed and invented by Ajay Bhatt while working for Intel. USB has effectively replaced a variety of interfaces such as serial and parallel ports.
